Hi! My name is Jan Van Velse. I started Velse Photography in 2002 after graduating from Purdue University where I majored in Photography. I shot weddings (in film!) for about six years before leaving the wedding industry to focus on families and newborns.
As our kids grew older and schedules got more hectic, I switched gears once again. These days I am mostly focused on commercial food photography, though I still do occasional family and senior photos when time allows. However, I am no longer doing newborn photography in the studio. My newborn props have been replaced with kitchen gadgets and place settings.
It has been a really fun transition and I am loving my new subject. Photography has been a journey for me, as my life changes, so does my subject. It’s been a fun ride!
On a personal note- I am a busy wife and mom of three- Henry 15, Ruth 13 and George 9. We manage to be on about six different sports teams at any given time and I am usually coaching one or two- so life is a bit crazy at the moment, but also so fun!
When I find some down time, I enjoy being outdoors, camping, reading and cooking. The most important things in my life are the people- my friends and family make life awesome! Oh and my pug- Marge. She’s my favorite!
