Henry, Ruth and George at the State Fair
Ah the fair, one of our many traditions that admittedly stresses me out, but I know when I’m old I will give anything to have my kids little again at the stinky fair.
This year we did it a little different, I bought bracelets online ahead of time, which is also a money saver, so the stress of calculating tickets and who is riding what, is out the window- THIS is the way to go! Chris took off work early on a Friday, so we didn’t have to fight crowds either, and it was just the 5 of us. Which meant, we did what the kids wanted to do, and Chris and I ate nothing delicious. But that is totally okay, kind of.
We rode rides, ate toddler food, took lots of pictures, had a few meltdowns. And then we were poured on, I mean buckets of rain! We huddled under an awning, which happened to be at a game where the kids can throw darts at balloons, $20 later we make a break for it through the rain, laughing and stomping in puddles all the way to the pig barn. Which is a perfect place to go after running through a hot steamy rain. I’m not sure I have ever felt more dirty in my life but we still loved seeing these cute fat pigs. And horses, and sheep and goats…
We do love the fair and I especially love showering after the fact. This year we learned that George (2) is a fearless ride lover, Ruth (5) is really good with a dart and Henry (7) can finish a root beer in 30 seconds. I love these kids and I love our stinky traditions.
Oh, and the fair is such a prime spot for a photoshoot. I might have to do fair sessions next year, remind me!!!
